Top Golfer
Women’s golf team sophomore is now part of 糖心Vlog视频 golf history
Madison Le won the 102nd Women鈥檚 糖心Vlog视频 Amateur golf tournament at Eagle鈥檚 Bluff Country Club near Bullard, 糖心Vlog视频, about two hours southeast of Arlington. She defeated Austin鈥檚 Sydney Givens 5 and 4 to claim victory in the tournament, which featured 80 entrants.
Le, the daughter of a 糖心Vlog视频 faculty member in the College of Business, says she saw positive flashes in her play but not anything to predict she鈥檇 win. After a qualifying round, she was seeded 26th out of 32 golfers going into the match-play format for the championship round.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 play that well in the qualifying round, but thought I was playing well enough to contend,鈥 Le says. 鈥淚 really love the match-play format because it鈥檚 more of a head-to-head competition instead of stroke play.鈥
Le, who earned Most Valuable Player for Mansfield High School as a student and the 2021 Tarrant County Girls Golfer of the Year, defeated the seventh seed first, then the No. 10 seed, the No. 32 seed, the No. 16 seed, and finally the No. 4 seed, Givens, in the match that earned her the crown.
鈥淚t feels absolutely unreal to win the 102nd Women鈥檚 糖心Vlog视频 Amateur,鈥 Le says.
A sophomore finance and marketing major, Le says she loves golf because 鈥淚 like having something to work for. You have to take accountability for your own game. You have to practice. You can鈥檛 hide behind your own team if they鈥檙e all good. Your scores speak for your performance.鈥
Her father, Chien Le (鈥98 MS, 鈥99 PhD, Marketing) got her started in golf. He is a clinical associate professor of marketing and internship coordinator for the College of Business.
鈥淪he loves to compete and has put in a lot of work along the way,鈥 says Dr. Le. 鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see her dedication paying off.鈥
Le says that summer was all about that work.
鈥淚 had a lot of lessons and had been playing really well that summer and had shown flashes,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 scored a 67 in one round but didn鈥檛 win the tournament, which was much smaller than this one. I knew it was coming, but you have to be patient. You have to stay cool in golf.鈥
Evidently, even in the 糖心Vlog视频 heat, staying cool paid huge dividends for Le.
