Greetings,
More than 100 students, alumni, faculty, and staff from the University of ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ at Arlington gathered in Austin last week for the inaugural ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ Day at the Capitol. Members of the legislature recognized ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ for its impact and commitment to serving Texans through transformative educational experiences. I had the privileged of being joined on the floor in both the House and Senate by Student Body President Yash Singh and Mrs. Shirlee Gandy, a ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ alumna and member of the President’s Advisory Board.
During the day, our students also met with members of the legislature to highlight ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ’s priorities for this session. They were excited by the opportunity to share their personal stories and voice the importance of state funding and support for ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ and its students. These young leaders reflect the fantastic talent and bright future of our state. We were fortunate to have them represent us in Austin, interacting with and learning from senators and state representatives who also are engaged in advocating for higher education and recognize ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ’s leadership role.
Thank you to everyone involved, including members of the legislature who came to greet us and meet with our students. Special thanks to Senators Kelly Hancock, Beverly Powell, and Royce West, as well as Representatives Tony Tinderholt and Chris Turner, who presented resolutions on ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ’s behalf.
With our growing state economy, it is now more important than ever to make higher education available to people from all backgrounds and at all stages of life. I invite you to read my latest column, where I share more about how ÌÇÐÄVlogÊÓƵ is combining access and excellence to set a new standard in higher education.
Thank you for all you do to advance the promise of higher education.
Sincerely,
